Both now advance to the final round of voting (by a CoSIDA committee) to determine All-American distinction among all eight of the district's 10 winners. Ishimatsu earned All-American second-team honors last year.
One of the NCAA's top divers and a former Olympian, Ishimatsu completed her USC career in March as a two-time NCAA champion, a four-time All-American first teamer and a four-time Pac-12 individual champion. She was also a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic first team selection and is now a two-time CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District 8 pick. Ishimatsu, who scored in seven career NCAA events, was a three-time Pac-12 champion on platform and won once on 3-meter.
As a 2015 senior, she earned her third straight All-American first team honor with a second-place on platform (339.65) at the 2015 NCAA Championships. She also was a 'B' finalist on 3-meter, (15th, 320.55), and 1-meter (16th, 288.05). She became the first Pac-12 woman to win the platform three straight years and only the second to win it three times overall when she captured the title with 368.75 points at the 2015 Pac-12 Championships. She was also fifth on 3-meter (334.65) and sixth on 1-meter (322.50). A semifinalist for the 2014 AAU Sullivan Award, Ishimatsu earned her second consecutive Pac-12 All-Academic first team honor in April with a 3.73 GPA in sociology. She has a minor in forensics and criminality.
Gear made his NCAA Championships debut as a senior, competing on 1-meter and platform, and finished his career as a five-time career Pac-12 finalist and a nine-time Zone E finalist. Gear earned his first NCAA Championships appearance at the NCAA Zone E Championships with a seventh on 1-meter (662.85). He also reached the final on platform, taking 11th (629.4). At the 2015 Pac-12s, he was a two-time finalist, finishing fourth on platform (360.35) and eighth on 3-meter (337.80).
Gear earned his second straight Pac-12 All-Academic first team selection in April with a 3.82 GPA in French and cinematic arts critical studies.
Both Ishimatsu and Gear will walk in USC's Student-Athlete Graduation today at Galen Center.
