Trojan Swimming Holds Annual Awards Banquet
Lindsay Benko, Bela Szabados named most valuable swimmers.

LOS ANGELES - Senior All-Americans Lindsay Benko and Bela Szabados were named the USC women's and men's swimming teams' most valuable swimmers, respectively, at the annual awards banquet held Saturday afternoon (April 17) at the Galen Center on campus.

In addition, sophomore All-American Justin Dumais (Ventura, Calif.) and freshman Pac-10 champion Kellie Brennan (Huntington Beach, Calif.) were named USC's Most Valuable Divers.

Benko finished her USC career with an outstanding senior season, winning a U.S. National championship in the 200m freestyle and an NCAA title in the 500y free. Szabados also had a superb final campaign, posting a pair of second-place finishes at the NCAAs (200y and 500y free) and two thirds at the U.S. Spring Nationals (100m and 200m free).

Dumais was a three-time All-American in 1999, finalling at the NCAAs in all three diving specialties. He was also named Pac-10 Men's Diver of the Year for the second consecutive year after defending his titles in all three diving events, setting conference records in each. Brennan won the 1-meter title at the Pac-10s in her first conference meet and took third in the 3-meter and sixth in the platform.
