Ishimatsu Earns Pac-12 Honor, Still Strong At Zones|
March 9, 2012
USC senior diver Victoria Ishimatsu, on the same day she was named Pac-12 Women's Diver of the Month for February, continued her strong spring at the 2012 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships, taking second on 3-meter at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Cadet Natatorium in Fort Collins, Colo., on Friday (March 9).
Ishimatsu, a three-time All-American coming off a pair of springboard titles at the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, won the 1-meter Zone E title Thursday. She finished second on 3-meter Friday with 665.25, just 3.55 points behind Arizona's Samantha Pickens. Ishimatsu was within 0.15 heading into the last round, but Pickens registered a 55.50 on her final effort to the Trojan senior's 52.20. Pickens was second to Ishimatsu on 1-meter Thursday.
Trojan freshman Jordan Gear was 22nd in the men's 1-meter (262.50).
Ishimatsu earned her latest Pac-12 monthly honor thanks to her two conference titles two weeks ago. At the meet, she made history with her win on the 3-meter, becoming the first women's diver to win the same event four years in a row. She finished her conference career with seven titles and was voted Diver of the Meet for the third straight year.
Women's Zone E platform prelims begin at 11 a.m. Saturday with finals at 12:30 p.m. Men's platform prelims are at 3:30 p.m. with finals at 5 p.m.
