No. 1 USC Wins SMU Classic
Oct. 19, 2013
Junior Haley Ishimatsu won the 3-meter springboard and USC swept the 200y medley and 200y free relays as Troy's depth was just enough to win the six-team 2013 SMU Classic in Dallas on Saturday (Oct. 19).
Troy finished first with 312 points, just ahead of second-place Indiana (304.5). Louisville was third (280) and was followed by North Carolina (276), SMU (275.5) and Miami (176).
USC needed to finish ahead of Indiana in the final 200y free relay and it did as senior Kasey Carlson and sophomores Kendyl Stewart, Jasmine Tosky and Kasia Wilk won in 1:30.38, safely ahead of Indiana's second-place effort of 1:31.94.
Troy opened the second day of action with a win in the 200y medley relay as Stewart, Carlson, Tosky and Wilk won in 1:39.10.
USC didn't win an individual swimming `A' final but Stewart took third in the 200y back (1:58.37), Wilk was third in the 100y free (50.57), Tosky was third in the 200y fly (1:57.23) and senior Stina Gardell was third in the 200y IM (1:59.80). Carlson won the `B' final of the 200y breast (2:10.83).
