Two first-place finishes in the backstroke by freshman Joanna Fargus paced 11 overall wins by USC as the Women of Troy (5-4) defeated UCLA for the ninth consecutive time, beating the Bruins, 167-133, on Saturday (Feb. 16) at the Sunset Recreational Center in Westwood.

Fargus won the 100 backstroke in 56.19 and the 200 backstroke in 2:00.69.

Freshman diver Blythe Hartley won the 1-meter springboard and senior Kellie Brennan won 3-meter springboard as USC swept the diving events.

Junior Asa Sandlund won the 1650y free (16:56.26), junior Michala Kwasny won the 400y IM (4:23.11), freshman Kaitlin Sandeno won the 200y fly (2:02.16), senior Kristin MacGregor won the 100y breast (1:03.22) and sophomore Melissa Deary won the 500y free (4:57.49).

USC's 400y medley relay of Fargus, MacGregor, Kwasny and Jennifer Parmenter won in 3:46.63. Troy's 400y free relay team of Parmenter, Fargus, Katie Meyer and Kristin MacGregor won in 3:25.76.

USC is next in action at the 2002 Pac-10 Championships at Long Beach, Feb. 28 through March 2.
