Adams Leads USC On 1M At Zone E Championships

    March 14, 2013

Freshman Sam Adams led a trio of USC women's divers with a seventh-place finish on 3-meter at the 2013 NCAA Zone E Diving Championships on Thursday (March 14), at the U.S. Air Force Academy's Cadet Natatorium in Fort Collins, Colo.

There are 85 divers competing for a handful of berths into the upcoming men's and women's NCAA Championships, including women's divers from 24 western schools and men's divers from 11 schools.

Whether Adams' finish is good enough to advance to the NCAAs won't be known until the completion of events Saturday (based on how other divers finish in all three events).

Adams scored 604.70, her total from the six-dive prelim set combined with her six-dive final. She finished sixth in prelims with 309.20.

Sophomore Haley Ishimatsu, who specializes in platform (which she won at the 2013 Pac-12s) and is also strong on 1-meter, was 14th on 3-meter (577.20).

Freshman Natalie Kalibat was 22nd with 270.60. Only the top 18 divers in prelims advance to the final.

The men's 1-meter, which will feature USC sophomore Jordan Gear and freshman Spencer Madanay, will take place starting at 4:45 p.m.
