THIS SEASON: Heather Valerio, a 2003 senior and one of Troy’s hardest workers, will try to continue to be a point-scoring contributor at the Pac-10 level and hopes to do the same at the NCAAs.
2002: Valerio swam in three races at the 2002 Pac-10s as a junior, finishing 23rd in the 500y free (4:58.73), 25th in the 200y fly (2:07.56) and 28th in the 200y free (1:52.44) … During the season, she set personal records of 1:51.74 in the 200y free and 4:55.34 in the 500y free.
2001: As a 2001 sophomore, Valerio competed in three events at the 2001 Pac-10 Championships, taking 15th in both the 200y free (1:52.42) and 500y free (4:58.65) and 21st in the 200y fly (2:07.86).
2000: As a 2000 freshman, Valerio competed in two events at the 2000 Pac-10s, taking 39th in the 500y free (5:06.99) and 41st in the 200y free (1:56.06).
HIGH SCHOOL: Valerio prepped at Rio Americano (Sacramento, Calif.) High, where she holds Sierra Valley Conference records in the 200y and 500y free and 400y free relay ... She earned the Scholar-Athlete Award all four years in high school.
PERSONAL: She was born on May 24, 1981 ... She is majoring in business ... Her cousin, J.P. Roberge, was an All-Pac-10 Southern Division standout at USC (1992-94) and is currently in the minor leagues ... Valerio’s mother, Sharon, and several other relatives also attended USC.
