Hosszu, Carlson Lead Huge Day At Texas Invitational
Colupaev, Lendrum among men's swimmers who are also strong.
THIS SEASON: Kate Shumway is a talented freestyle specialist as a 2012 junior who has provided good depth for the Trojans and looks to return to the NCAA Championships for the second time.
2011: As a 2011 sophomore, Shumway raced in three events at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships, tying for 18th in the 100y free (50.50), taking 24th in the 50y free and 27th in the 200y free (1:50.36).
2010: Shumway swam on USC's 10th-place 400-yard free relay as a 2010 freshman at the NCAA Championships and also swam in the 200y free (59th, 1:49.33) ... At the 2010 Pac-10 Championships, she was 15th in the 50y free (23.29), 19th in the 100y free (50.49) and 21st in the 200y free (1:48.53). She was also on USC's school-record-setting 200-yard and 400-yard free relays, swimming the anchor legs on both.
HIGH SCHOOL: Shumway prepped at New Trier in Winnetka, Ill., where she was a 17-time prep All-American and the state champion in the 200y free as a junior ... She holds her school's records in the 100y and 200y free ... She was an AP Scholar and a member of Honor Roll.
CLUB/COACH: New Trier Swim Club/Bob Kizer.
PERSONAL: Shumway was born Jan. 1, 1991 ... She plans to study public relations at USC ... Her father (Garry) ran track at Stanford and her grandfather (Forrest) played football for the Cardinal.
