THIS SEASON: An improving sprinter, 2002 senior Kirsten Rich should be one of Troy’s keys in the freestyle, individually and on relays.
2001: As a 2001 junior, Rich competed in two events at the Pac-10 Championships, taking 14th in the 50y free (23.74) and 21st in the 100y free (52.43) ... At the 2001 U.S. Spring Nationals, Rich was 30th in the 50m free (27.03).
GOLDEN WEST: Rich competed for two years (1999-2000) at Golden West College in Westminster, Calif., as a swimmer and in water polo and was part of state championship teams in both sports both years in school ... She set the junior college national record in the 50y free and posted a state record in the 100y free ... She was also part of national record relays in the 200y, 400y and 800y freestyle ... She earned All-American honors in the 50y and 100y free, the 50y fly and in four relays ... She also competed at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 50m free, taking 40th (26.86).
HIGH SCHOOL: Rich prepped Marina High in Huntington Beach, Calif., and competed in both swimming and water polo.
PERSONAL: Her birthday is May 7, 1980. She is studying psychology and communications at USC.
