THIS SEASON: A top-flight swimmer from England, 2004 junior Margie Pedder is among the NCAA’s top distance freestylers and is also strong in the fly and invaluable on relays.
2003: Pedder was a two-time All-American at her first ever NCAA Championships as a 2003 sophomore. She finished fifth in the 1650y free (16:02.60, second-fastest ever at USC behind teammate Kaitlin Sandeno) and helped Troy to a third-place mark in the 800y free relay. She also swam in a pair of consolation finals, taking 10th in the 500y free (4:43.93) and 13th in the 200y fly (1:59.01) … At the 2003 Pac-10s, Pedder was second to Sandeno in the 1650y free (16:04.94) and was third in the 500y free (4:44.88). She was also sixth in the 200y fly (1:58.34) … At the 2003 U.S. Spring Nationals, Pedder reached the final of the 200m fly, taking seventh in 2:14.00. She also was 19th in the 800m free (8:50.91) … At the 2003 U.S. Summer Nationals, she was 10th in the 200m fly (2:13.81), 14th in the 1500m free (16:50.84), 22nd in the 200m free (2:04.08) and 26th in the 400m free (4:19.01). She also swam on the Trojan Club’s victorious 800m free relay.
ENGLAND: Attended the University of Portsmouth before attending USC… A British national champion in the 200m fly, she won a bronze medal in the event at the 2002 Commonwealth Games and did the same at the 2001 World University Games … A semifinalist at the 2000 Olympics in the 200m fly, she finished 11th in 2:10.49 … She was seventh in the 200m fly (2:10.21) at the 1999 World Short Course Championships.
PERSONAL: She was born on June 27, 1980 … She is a communication major … She lists Australian great Susan O’Neil as her biggest sports hero and trained with her for a time in Australia.
