THIS SEASON: Ania Kowalczyk, a 2012 senior who is a long-time Polish national team member, is a key dual-meet performer for the Trojans and a solid postseason contributor. She is also one of USC's top student-athletes who was a 2010 Pac-10 All-Academic first-teamer and a 2011 second-teamer. 2011: Kowalczyk, as a 2011 junior, competed in three events at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships, taking 15th in the 100y breast (1:03.34), 17th in the 200y breast (2:15.37) and 23rd in the 200y IM (2:01.99) ... She posted personal records in the 100y (1:02.47) and 200y breast (2:13.71) in the fall semester, both NCAA `B' cuts ... She was tabbed as a 2011 Pac-10 All-Academic second teamer. 2010: As a 2010 sophomore, Kowalczyk was a consolation finalist at the 2010 Pac-10 Championships in the 100y breast, finishing 14th (1:04.12). She was 20th in the 400y IM (4:21.58) and 32nd in the 200y IM (2:04.16) ... She earned 2010 Pac-10 All-Academic first team honors with a 3.74 GPA in health promotion. 2009: Kowalczyk competed in three events at the 2009 Pac-10 Championships, highlighted by a consolation final swim in the 200y IM (where she finished 16th in 2:00.76). She was also 18th in the 100y breast (1:03.14) and 26th in the 400y IM (4:22.59) ... She competed for Poland at both the 2009 World University Games and the 2009 World Championships ... At the World University Games, she was 13th in the 200m IM (2:18.71) and 14th in the 400m IM (4:58.31) ... At the World Championships, she raced in the 200m IM, finishing 37th. HIGH SCHOOL: Kowalczyk prepped at VII Liceum Ogolnoksztalcace in Zielona Gora, Poland, where she was a national champion in the 50m breast and finished second at the Polish Nationals in the 200m IM, the 200m back and the 100m breast.
