    Four Trojans Earn Final Berths To Open NCAA Championships

    Anderson, Gardell, Hawthorne, Carlson All Reach Finals, as does 200 Free Relay.

    THIS SEASON: A talented backstroker and freestyler with international experience, 2013 freshman Joanna Stenkvist is a versatile swimmer who will undoubtedly lend good scoring during dual meets as well as in the post-season.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Stenkvist, a Swedish native who attended Panther Creek High in Cary, N.C., was a seven-time North Carolina state champion and a prep All-American. She is the state record holder in the 200y back in multiple age groups and also holds the 500y free mark (15-16). She was the 2011 Co-MVP of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association's 4-A Championships after winning the 100y and 200y free (she once held the state record in the latter race). She swam for Sweden at the 2010 World Championships, reaching the semifinals of the 100m and 200m back and swimming the 200m free. At the 2010 European Junior Championships, she won the 400m free and was third in the 200m back, and, at the 2010 European Championships, she earned a silver as the leadoff on Sweden's 400m free relay. The Swedish record holder in the 200m back, she won that race at the 2011 Swedish Championships and was second in the 200m free. She competed in a variety of events at the 2011 U.S. Junior Nationals, reaching the finals of the 100m and 200m back. She won the 200m back at the 2010 Austin Grand Prix.

    PERSONAL: She was born on Feb. 10, 1994 in Stockholm, Sweden, and is planning to study accounting and industrial engineering.
