THIS SEASON: 2000-2001 senior co-captain Karen Jacobs is a valuable member of the Women of Troy squad both as a leader and as a point-scorer at the Pac-10 and, possibly, NCAA level.
1999-2000: Jacobs, as a 1999-2000 junior, won the consolation finals of the 400y IM (4:25.89) at the 2000 Pacific-10 Championships and also took 15th in the 1650y free (17:00.05) and 20th in the 500y free (4:57.48). She earned 2000 Pac-10 All-Academic second team honors. At the 2000 team banquet, she earned the Megan Holiday Spirit Award.
1998-99: Jacobs competed in three events at the 1999 Pac-10 Championships, taking 12th in the 400y IM (4:25.09), 13th in the 1650y free (16:59.05) and 16th in the 500y free (4:59.73). She competed in three events at the 1998 U.S. Open (400m and 800m free and 400m IM).
1997-98: Jacobs competed in three events at the 1998 Pac-10 Championships as a 1997-98 freshman, taking 13th in the 1650y free, 14th in the 400y IM and 16th in the 500y free.
HIGH SCHOOL: Jacobs prepped at Highline High in Seattle, Wash., earning All-American consideration in the 200y IM and the 100y breast in 1997. She was a 1996 Olympic Trials qualifier in the 400m IM. She helped her school to the state championship in 1993. She was an Academic All-American and was the recipient of both the Presidential Academic Fitness Award and the Washington Principal's Award.
PERSONAL: Her birthday is June 14, 1979. She is an English major. She graduated from the same high school as fellow senior co-captain Corrie Murphy and lists Murphy as the toughest person she has ever swam against. She enjoys water skiing and rollerblading as well as reading and writing.
