    THIS SEASON: Katy Houston, a 2008 junior, is a talented breaststroker and improving medley swimmer who is a two-time NCAA Championships participant. A dual meet mainstay, she also saw action on relays as a sophomore.

    2007: At the 2007 NCAA Championships, Houston was 27th in the 200y breast (2:16.08), 29th in the 100y breast (1:02.83) and 37th in the 200y IM (2:01.66) ... At the 2007 Pac-10 Championships, Houston made her first final appearance, taking seventh in the 200y breast (2:16.31). She was also 15th in the 100y breast (1:03.43) and 14th in the 400y IM (4:24.80) ... Her 2:01.12 at the Texas Invitational was USC's top mark in the 200y IM in 2007 while her top times in the 100y (1:01.55) and 200y breast (2:13.24) were both second fastest on the team, personal bests and NCAA automatic qualifying times ... At the 2007 U.S. Summer Nationals, she was 27th in the 100m breast (1:11.75), 37th in the 200m breast (2:36.19) and 56th in the 200m IM (2:21.09).

    2006: Houston raced in two events at the 2006 NCAA Championships as a freshman, taking 23rd in the 200y IM (2:01.41, USC's second-best time of the season and a personal best) and 27th in the 200y breast (2:16.21) ... She was a three-time consolation finalist at the 2006 Pac-10 Championships with a 10th in the 200y breast (2:16.51) and 11th-place finishes in the 200y IM (2:02.84) and 100y breast (1:03.14) ... Houston swam twice at the 2006 U.S. Spring Nationals, highlighted by a 23rd in the 200m IM ... She also raced at the 2006 U.S. Summer Nationals in the 200 IM and the 100m and 200m breast.

    HIGH SCHOOL: Houston prepped at McQueen High in Reno, Nev., where she was a four-year All-American first-teamer, NIAA Swimmer of the Year in 2003 and 2005 in Nevada and the Northern Nevada Female Swimmer of the Year from 2003-2005 ... A three-time U.S. Swimming Scholastic All-American (2003-200) with senior national experience, she is the Nevada state record holder in the 200y IM and the 100y breast and won a combined seven state titles in those events ... She was also a national junior team member in 2003-2004 and went to the national select camp in 2002 ... She was a U.S. Army National Scholar Athlete for 2005 and was an AP Scholar and Nevada High School Scholar in 2004 and 2005 ... She graduated among the top 10 (sixth) in her class.

    PERSONAL: She was born July 10, 1987 ... She is studying environmental engineering at USC ... She comes from an athletic family. Her aunt, Shannon Smith, won a bronze medal in the 400m free at the 1976 Olympics and her aunt Tricia Smith won a silver in rowing at the 1984 Olympics. Her grandmother Pat Smith played basketball for the Canadian National team and her grandfather Marshall Smith did the same in rugby.
