THIS SEASON: Meghan Hawthorne blossomed as a sophomore All-American in 2012, was a 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials finalist and 2012 U.S. Open winner, and appears poised to continue her rise as one of the NCAA's top swimmers as a 2013 junior. 2012: Hawthorne earned her first All-American honor as a 2012 sophomore, finishing seventh in the 200y IM (1:56.07) at the 2012 NCAA Championships. She also scored in the 400y IM, taking 12th (4:07.55) and swam in the 200y breast as well ... She was a three-time finalist at the 2012 Pac-12 Championships, highlighted by a fourth-place in the 400y IM (4:08.12). She was also fifth in the 200y IM (1:57.50) and seventh in the 200y breast (2:14.48). Both IM times were PRs, as was her prelim effort in the 200y breast (2:13.01) ... At the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials, Hawthorne reached the final of the 400m IM, where she finished sixth (she was fourth in prelims). She was also a semifinalist in the 200m IM (11th) and was 30th in the 200m breast ... At the 2012 U.S. Open, Hawthorne won the 400m IM to earn a spot on the United States' 2013 World University Games team. She was also third in the 200m IM ... At the 2012 U.S. Winter Nationals, she was fifth in the 200y IM (1:56.60) and sixth in the 200y breast (2:11.98) ... She earned 2012 Pac-12 All-Academic honorable mention honors. 2011: Hawthorne raced in two events at the 2011 NCAA Championships as a freshman, taking 39th in the 200y IM (2:00.72) and 43rd in the 200y back (1:58.24) ... At the 2011 Pac-10 Championships, Hawthorne was a two-time finalist, taking sixth in the 400y IM (4:10.76) and eighth in the 200y IM (1:59.65). She was also 17th in the 200y back (1:57.73, PR) ... She set a PR in the 400y IM in USC's win over UCLA (4:10.39). HIGH SCHOOL: Hawthorne graduated from Chaminade High in West Hills, Calif., where she was the 2008 and 2010 L.A. Daily News Swimmer of the Year ... She was a three-time CIF Southern Section champion in the 200y IM (2008-2010) and also won titles in the 100y fly (2010) and 500y free (2008). Her 2010 200y IM title in 1:58.74 broke the CIF-SS D1 record ... A four-year MVP for Chaminade and the 2010 Female Athlete of the Year, she was a 2009 U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete as a junior, a four-year prep All-American and a three-time scholastic All-American ... She competed at the 2008 Olympic Trials, was a member of the U.S. National Youth Team for 2009-2010 and competed a the 2010 Junior Pan Pacs ...
