Hosszu, Ishimatsu Pace Trojan Efforts Midway Through NCAA Championships
Seniors each qualify for second consecutive finals, as does 200y medley relay.
THIS SEASON: Sophomore Kasey Carlson, a 2011 All-American and a 2009-10 U.S. national team member, returns as one of the Trojans' top swimmers and will vie for Pac-12 and NCAA titles in the sprint free and breast while being a mainstay on USC relays. She is USC's record holder in the 50y free and is part of four relay records.
2011: Carlson was a four-time All-American as a 2011 freshman, taking fourth in the 100y breast (59.29) and fifth in the 50y free (22.13, PR) at the 2011 NCAA Championships, the latter time a USC record. She also helped Troy to second in the 400y medley relay and third in the 200y medley relay, also in school record times. Carlson scored individually in a third event, taking 14th in the 100y free (48.59) and helped Troy earn points in the 200y and 400y free relay ... Carlson was a two-time finalist at the 2011 Pac-10 Championships, finishing second in the 100y breast (59.12) and fifth in the 50y free (22.39). Her breaststroke time made her the second-fastest Trojan ever in the 100y breast behind record-setter Rebecca Soni. She was also 12th in the 100y free (49.75) and helped USC to second-place finishes in both medley relays ... At the 2010 Short Course Nationals, she helped USC to titles in the 200y free and 400y medley relays.
HIGH SCHOOL: Carlson prepped at Las Lomas High in Walnut Creek, Calif., where she was the Contra Costa Times 2008-2009 Athlete of the Year and the 2008-2010 Swimmer of the Year ... She had huge success in high school, reaching the medal stand at the 2009 FINA World Championships with a third-place swim in the 100m breast, not to mention a sixth-place finish in the 50m breast ... She earned her spot on the 2009 U.S. team after finishing second in the 100m breast at the 2009 National Championships ... Carlson, a member of the U.S. Junior National team from 2006-08, was third in the 50m free and first in the 400m medley relay at the 2009 Junior Pac Pacific Championships, placed first in the 100m breast at the 2008 Junior Nationals and was first in the 50m breast at the 2008 World Youth Games ... She is the national high school record holder in the 100y breast and the NAG record holder in the 100m breast (1:05.75).
