    Top-ranked Stanford Defeats No. 4 USC, 176-124

    STANFORD, Calif - Freshman Catherine Fox won three events and set a pool record to lead five-time defending NCAA champion Stanford (7-0) to a 176-124 win over USC (7-1) on Saturday at deGuerre Pool.

    Fox's pool record came in the 100 backstroke (53.89), beating the former mark (54.09) set by Lea Loveless in 1994. The freshman also finished first in the 50 freestyle (22.92) and 100 butterfly (54.54) and helped her 400 medley relay team to victory. Senior Claudia Franco won the 100 freestyle (50.88) for Stanford, while junior Elin Austevoll placed first in the 100 breastroke (1:02.89) for the Cardinal.

    The Trojans lost despite senior Kristine Quance's first place finish in the 400 individual medley (4:12.18) which set another pool record.
