Ross/Kessy Advance To Semifinals At London Olympics|

Former USC women’s volleyball standouts April Ross and Jennifer Kessy made it to the semifinals of the 2012 London Olympic women’s beach volleyball competition with a 25-23, 21-18 quarterfinal victory over the Czech Republic’s Kristyna Kolocova-Marketa Slukova on Sunday (Aug. 5).
Ross/Kessy, the world’s No. 4-ranked team, won their fifth consecutive match with a defeat in the London Games. The duo, in their first trip to the Olympics, will now face the Brazil’s Juliana Silva and Larissa Franca, the world’s top-ranked team, on Tuesday (Aug. 7) at either 10 a.m. PT or 2 p.m. PT. A victory would ensure the Americans of a medal.
On Sunday against Kolocova/Slukova, ranked 11th in the world, Ross had 20 kills and Kessy had 3 blocks, while both players added 2 aces apiece.
Kessy was a 2-time All-Conference performer at USC while lettering from 1995 to 1998. Ross, who lettered from 2000 to 2003, was a 2-time All-American and was the 2003 Honda Award winner for women's volleyball as she led the Women of Troy to the 2002 and 2003 NCAA titles. Kessy and Ross have combined for 21 pro tournament victories.
