Two USC Women's Sand Volleyball Teams Finish As Runnersup At USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge Pairs Tourney|

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. - USC's No. 1 women's sand volleyball pairs team of Kirby Burnham-Stevi Robinson finished as the runnerup in the gold division at the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge's pair championship on Sunday (April 21) in Hermosa Beach, while the Women of Troy's No. 5 team of Sam Hirschmann-Natasa Siljkovic was the runnerup in the bronze division.
Pairs teams from USC, Pepperdine, Long Beach State, UCLA, Hawaii, Loyola Marymount, CSU Bakersfield and Santa Clara competed in bracket play in gold (Nos. 1 and 2 teams), silver (Nos. 3 and 4 teams) and bronze (No. 5 teams) divisions.
Burnham-Robinson beat Long Beach State's No. 2 team of Libby Fontanilla-Bre Mackie, 21-7, 21-14, Santa Clara's No. 2 team of Alyssa Anderson-Haley Cameron, 21-10, 21-12, and Pepperdine's No. 2 squad of Lara Dykstra-Caitlin Racich, 21-18, 21-12, before falling in the final to Pepperdine's No. 1 duo of Kim Hill-Lilla Frederick, 21-19, 21-18.
Hirschmann-Siljkovic defeated CSU Bakersfield's Kelsee Sawyer-Star Tucker-Campbell, 21-13, 19-21, 15-7, and Loyola Marymount's Ashley Maxfeldt-Anne Marie Taylor, 21-10, 21-9, before falling to Pepperdine's Emily Cook-Katie Messing, 21-15, 15-21, 15-12 in the final.
USC's other 3 pairs teams each finished tied for ninth after losing their opener and then winning their loser's bracket match. No. 2 Katie Fuller-Cinnamon Sary fell to Hawaii No. 1 Natasha Bell-Tai Manu-Olevao, 20-22, 21-14, 15-13, before beating CSU Bakersfield No. 2 Debora Araujo-Yuan Fu, 21-14, 21-15. No. 3 Eve Ettinger-Bria Russ lost to Long Beach State No. 4 Tyler Jackson-Janisa Johnson, 21-18, 21-8, then beat Santa Clara No. 4 Katy Schatzman-Lexi Williamson, 21-15, 21-11. No. 4 Kati Duddridge-Brooke Fournier lost to Pepperdine No. 3 Kelley Larsen-Kellie Woolever, 19-21, 21-14, 15-4, then defeated Santa Clara No. 3 Katherine Douglas-Sarah Vaccaro, 21-12, 21-17.
USC next hosts an exhibition against the USA National Beach Team on Saturday (April 27) at 9 a.m. at the new on-campus Merle Norman Stadium.
