USC Women's Sand Volleyball Wins 2 Of 3 Matches At USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge|

HERMOSA BEACH, Calif. - The No. 4-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team won two of its three dual matches to finish tied for third in the team competition of the USA Volleyball Beach Collegiate Challenge at the pier in Hermosa Beach this Saturday (April 20).
The Women of Troy, now 14-6 overall, opened the day with a 4-1 loss to No. 2 Long Beach State, with USC losing 2 of the 3 duals that were extended to 3 sets. USC then beat CSU Bakersfield, 4-1, and swept Loyola Marymount, 5-0.
No. 1 Pepperdine, which went undefeated in its pool, beat Long Beach State, 3-2, in the final to win the team title.
The Women of Troy will now participate in the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge's single elimination pairs championship on Sunday (April 21) beginning at 9 a.m. There will be play in gold (Nos. 1 and 2 pairs teams), silver (Nos. 3 and 4 pairs teams) and bronze (No. 5 pairs teams) divisions, with championship matches at 3:15 p.m.
USC's only victory in its Long Beach State match on Saturday came at the No. 1 pairs spot, as Kirby Burnham-Stevi Robinson outlasted Caitlin LeDoux-Tara Roenicke, 18-21, 22-20, 15-10. The Women of Troy lost close 3-set matches at No. 2 (Katie Fuller-Cinnamon Sary falling to Delainey Aigner-Swesey-Chelsea Cabrajac, 20-22, 21-19, 15-0) and No. 3 (Eve Ettinger-Bria Russ losing to Libby Fontanilla-Bre Mackie, 8-21, 21-19, 25-23). USC was swept at No. 4 (Lauren Minkel-Jocelyn Neely over Kati Duddridge-Brooke Fournier, 21-13, 21-14) and No. 5 (Tyler Jackson-Janisa Johnson over Sam Hirschmann-Natasa Siljkovic, 21-16, 21-15).
But USC rebounded against CSU Bakersfield, getting wins at No. 1 (Burnham-Robinson over Mariah Alvidrez-Shayna Guitare, 21-17, 21-19), No. 2 (Fuller-Sary over Debora Araujo-Yuan Fu, 21-13, 21-14), No. 4 (Duddridge-Fournier over Sara Little- Danika Youngblood, 21-15, 21-13) and Hirschmann-Siljkovic over Kelsee Sawyer-Star Tucker-Campbell (21-9, 21-7). The Women of Troy's only loss saw Ettinger-Russ fall to Lisa Bartsch-Molly O'Hagan, 21-11, 16-21, 15-12, at No. 3.
In its sweep over Loyola Marymount, USC posted 2-0 wins at every pairs position. Burnham-Robinson defeated Felicia Arriola-Litara Keil, 21-17, 21-16, at No. 1; Fuller-Sary beat Kenna Crouse-Taylor Scioscia, 21-10, 21-11, at No. 2; Ettinger-Russ defeated Amber Mirabello-Hannah Tedrow, 21-11, 21-16, at No. 3; Duddridge-Fournier beat Avery Bush-Rachelle Suaava, 21-8, 21-16, at No. 4; and Hirschmann-Siljkovic posted a 21-8, 21-19 victory over Ashely Maxfeldt-Anne Marie Taylor at No. 5.
