IRVINE, Calif. - The No. 1-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team (21-0) completed a pair of 5-0 sweeps over Irvine Valley College (7-5) and Concordia (N/A) at the IVC Sand Volleyball Courts on Tuesday, April 14. The 21 straight victories matches a program record set in 2014.
Several Trojan pairs reached milestones with their wins today. Sophomore tandem Kelly Claes and Sara Hughes earned their 30th victory of the year and are just the third USC duo ever to reach the 30-win plateau. Junior Alexa Strange and sophomore Sophie Bukovec teamed to reach the 25-win mark while seniors Eve Ettinger and Meg Norton also earned their 25th win as a pair. Freshman Jenna Belton and senior Bria Russ crossed the 20-win plateau and became the fifth Trojan pair to reach that mark this season.
In a first-time meeting with IVC, the Trojans got started with a point from court five where Belton and Russ took out Taylor Askins and Carleigh Peterson, 21-18, 21-10. Sophomores Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler followed suit and won in straight sets, 21-14, 21-17, over Shaelyn Perez and Emily Reinking on court four.
USC clinched the dual from court three when Ettinger and Norton completed their 21-14, 21-6 win over Samantha Holdredge and Kayla Scheevel. The Trojans added a fourth point from court two on a 21-18, 22-20 win by Bukovec and Strange over Hailee Earnest and Hannah Matt.
The sweep was complete once Claes and Hughes defeated Marisa Doran and Kobi Pekich, 21-9, 21-13, at the top court. In a non-scoring match, seniors Alexa Stonish and Emily Young won in straight sets, 21-16, 21-7, against Samantha Goodman and Makani Wall.

Ettinger and Norton delivered a second point with their 21-9, 21-9 victory against Kyra Auten and Celeste Snider on court three. Martin and Wheeler had the clincher on a 21-14, 21-17 win against Kaila Ames and Samantha Palmer at court four.
USC added a fourth point at court two with Bukovec and Strange's 21-11, 21-15 win over Kailey Dudevoir and Kayla Kane and topped off the sweep from court one on a dominant 21-4, 21-9 win over Marissa Boyd and Rachel Flynn. In a non-scoring match against the Eagles, freshman Marielle Bagnard and sophomore Paige Hines claimed a 21-10, 21-11 win over Hailey Ganes and Genessee Tate.
The Trojans will wrap the regular-season schedule as hosts of the Pac-12 Invitational this weekend (April 18-19) at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, Calif. USC welcomes Arizona, Arizona State, California, and UCLA for the team and pairs tournament. Play begins at approximately 9 a.m. PT each day. Last year, the Trojans won the team portion and Hughes and Kirby Burnham claimed the pairs title.
