    USC Women's Sand Volleyball Goes 2-2 In Duals At USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge
    Women of Troy beat Hawaii and Loyola Marymount, then drop 3-2 matches to Pepperdine and Long Beach State

    The USC women's sand volleyball team posted a 2-2 dual match record on a windy first day of the 4-team USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge in Hermosa Beach, Calif., on Saturday (April 14).

    The Women of Troy defeated Hawaii, 4-1, and Loyola Marymount, 5-0, but dropped matches to both Pepperdine and Long Beach State by 3-2 scores on a day when chilly winds reached up to 25 miles per hour.

    USC's No. 2 pairs team of Kirby Burnham-Kelly Irvin won all 4 of its matches, defeating Hawaii's Elizabeth Stoltzman-Emily Hartong, 17-21, 21-13, 19-17, Loyola Marymount's Felicia Arriola-Caitlin DeWitt, 21-18, 21-19, Pepperdine's Lilla Frederick-Kim Hill, 23-21, 14-21, 15-11 and Long Beach State's Haleigh Hampton-Libby Fontanilla, 21-11, 21-14. Burnham-Irvin were among just 4 of the tourney's 25 pairs teams that won all 4 of their matches on Saturday, along with Pepperdine's Kelley Larsen-Stevi Robinson and Victoria Adelhelm-Kellie Woolever and Long Beach State's Caitlin Ledoux-Tara Roenicke.

    USC's No. 3 (Katie Fuller-Natalie Hagglund) and No. 5 (Kati Duddridge-Megan Thornberry) teams both went 3-1 on the day, while its No. 4 team of Kendall Bateman-Eve Ettinger weas 2-2. USC's No. 1 pair of Sara Shaw-Geena Urango was 1-3, with 2 of the losses coming in 3 sets.

    Pepperdine went 4-0 on the day, while Long Beach State was 3-1, Hawaii was 1-3 and Loyola Marymount lost all 4 of its matches.

    Play at the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge concludes on Sunday (April 15) with a pairs tournament.
