USC Women's Sand Volleyball Sweeps Saint Mary's
March 20, 2013 MORAGA, Calif. - The No. 3-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team finished its Northern California Spring Break road trip with a 5-0 win at Saint Mary's College on Wednesday (March 20). USC improved to 7-2, with the win coming a day after its 4-1 victory over Pacific. St. Mary's, like Pacific a first-year program, suffered its first-ever loss and dropped to 3-1. The Women of Troy posted 2-0 sweeps at its first 3 pairs spots, as Kirby Burnham-Stevi Robinson defeated Dalas Dodd-Jordan Shaw, 21-19, 21-15, at No. 1, Katie Fuller-Cinnamon Sary beat Danica Mendivil-Samantha Tinsley, 23-21, 21-16, at No. 2, and Eve Ettinger-Bria Russ beat Natalie Loos-Sarah Reams, 21-18, 21-18, at No. 3. USC's other pairs duos each won in 3 sets. No. 4 Brooke Fournier-Alexa Stonish came back to upend Rachel Gillcrist-Kritsina Graven, 13-21, 21-12, 15-7, and No. 5 Sam Hirschmann-Sydney Seau outlasted Frannie Cormier-Mileva Popovic, 23-21, 19-21, 15-11. The Women of Troy return to their new on-campus Merle Norman Stadium on Friday (March 22) and welcome No. 5 Hawaii (1-0) and No. 9 Nebraska (1-2), a new program, for team dual match competitions. USC will play Hawaii at 9 a.m., then the Rainbow Wahines will meet the Cornhuskers at 11 a.m., followed by USC versus Nebraska at 1 p.m. The format for the team dual matches will consist of 5 matches between pairs, with each match being rally scoring best-of-3 sets. The Nos. 4 and 5 teams (and, if available, a No. 6 non-scoring team) will play in the first hour on the Merle Norman Stadium's 3 courts, followed by the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 teams in the second hour of each dual match.
