LOS ANGELES - The second-ranked USC women's sand volleyball team (2-1) swept Bakersfield (1-3) in a 5-0 dual victory at Merle Norman Stadium on Thursday, March 13. The Women of Troy didn't drop a set to knock off the Road Runners in short order.

At court five, the Trojans' freshman tandem of Nicolette Martin and Allie Wheeler put together a 21-9, 21-13 win over Sydney Haynes and Danika Youngblood to kick off the scoring for USC. The pair posted a .450 hitting percentage and held the Runners to a negative .027 hitting percentage in the match.

USC tacked up a second point from court four where juniors Eve Ettinger and Bria Russ defeated Lisa Bartsch and Sara Little, 21-14, 21-15. Ettinger had match-high honors with 21 kills and added 12 digs for a double-double to go with two blocks and a pair of service aces.

The Women of Troy sealed the dual victory at the top court as senior Kirby Burnham and freshman Sara Hughes polished off a 21-12, 21-8 win over Debora Araujo and Molly O'Hagan. Hughes had 13 kills and 12 digs but was most impressive from the end line where she recorded nine service aces.

With the dual decided, USC put up another point from court three where Sam Hirschmann and Natasa Siljkovic took out Julia Bowen and Hazel Perrens, 21-7, 21-10, for a 4-0 score in the match. On court three, freshman Kelly Claes and sophomore Alexa Strange got off to a rocky start against Mariah Alvidrez and Shayna Guitare, but fought back for every point to get a 22-20 win in the first set before they gave USC a fifth dual point on a 21-17 win in the second.

In a non-scoring match, Paige Hines and Alexa Stonish defeated Sophie Flemion and Star Tucker-Campbell, 21-12, 21-17, on court six.

The Trojans are back in action on Friday (March 14) as hosts to No. 4 Florida State (2-0) and LMU (1-2) for a set of four matches including neutral matches between LMU and FSU (3:30 p.m.) and between No. 6 UCLA and FSU (5 p.m.).
