2017 All-American Sophie Bukovec enters her final season of action with the Women of Troy.
2016 As a junior, Bukovec served as team captain and helped USC win the inaugural NCAA beach volleyball national championship… named to the Pac-12 All-Conference First Team and Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention… tabbed DiG Magazine All-America Second Team… played all season at the No. 2 position with Alexa Strange and went 33-9 overall with a 25-6 record in dual matches… named Pac-12 Pair of the Week with Strange (April 18)… advanced to the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 Pairs Championship and the gold bracket finals in both the Hawai’i Invitational and the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge... won the Aloha Invitational silver bracket crown.
2015 As a sophomore, Bukovec was named an AVCA All-American… she played exclusively with partner Alexa Strange and completed the season with a 33-10 overall record, 23-5 at the No. 2 position in duals… advanced to the semifinals of the Queen of the Beach Challenge and the Pac-12 Invitational gold bracket… advanced to the final of the USAV Beach Collegiate Challenge silver bracket… advanced to the quarterfinals of the AVCA Pairs Championship.
2014 As a sophomore, Bukovec played indoor volleyball at Long Beach State… appeared in 27 matches with 11 starts and played a total of 80 sets… finished the season with 134 kills (1.67 kps), a .156 hitting percentage, 56 blocks (0.70 bps), and averaged 2.08 points per set… helped the 49ers to a 27-5 overall record including 16-0 in the Big West and a second-round NCAA tournament appearance.
2013 As a freshman at McMaster College (Ontario, Canada), Bukovec helped lead her team to the OUA (Ontario University Athletics) championship and an appearance in the CIS tournament (Canada’s national collegiate postseason tourney)… named to the OUA All-Star first team and the OUA Final Four MVP… led her team with 3.15 kps in 67 sets of action… also averaged 2.22 dps and led her team with 20 service aces.
INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE Bukovec competed as one of the youngest players on Canada’s national beach volleyball team… pairs with Claudia Seguin to take sixth place at the 2015 NORCECA Ontario Tour Stop… competed at the U19 and U21 FIVB World Championships… won gold at the 2014 FIVB U21 World Championships with Tia Miric (Canada’s first age-group winners at an FIVB World Championship)… placed ninth at the 2014 U23 World Championships with Miric… placed ninth at the 2012 U19 FIVB World Championship… winner of the 2013 Canada Games beach volleyball gold medal with Ali Wooley.
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB Bukovec prepped at Bishop Allen Academy where she was a four-year letterwinner as an outside hitter under head coaches Art Pietras and Jem Contreras… also a four-year soccer letterwinner as a center defender… earned co-ed volleyball MVP honors (2012, 2013)… named Senior Women’s Volleyball MVP in 2013… three-time honor roll student (2010, ’11, ’13)… played club volleyball with Defensa for two years… helped her team to the U16 Canadian gold medal, and the U18 silver medal… named to the U16 National All-Star Team.
PERSONAL Sophie Antonia Bukovec was born on Sept. 22, 1995, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada… parents are Boris and Helen Bukovec… has one brother, Matthew, and two sisters, Stephanie (a twin) and Natalie… twin sister Stephanie plays soccer at Oakland University, sister Natalie plays soccer at McMaster University… brother Matthew plays basketball at Humber College (Canada)… favorite foods are crepes, steak, and poutine… has aspirations to play on the FIVB World Tour and compete in the Olympics… also worked as a Canadian model… majoring in sociology.
