Rico Hoey showcased his skills on the golf course at the Bill Cullum Invitational, finishing second at 12-under 204 (64-67-72). The sophomore's efforts contributed to the Trojans' scoring a combined 31-under 833 (275-280-278) and claiming the tournament title. Hoey's performance provided a comfortable lead for the Trojans, who finished 11 strokes ahead of second-place Arizona State in dominating fashion.

Hoey's most notable scores were a pair of birdies and an eagle on the par 5 18th hole. The golfer's performance marks his second top-three finish this season. USC looks ahead to compete in the Gifford Collegiate Championship, Nov. 5-7, at the CordeValle G.C. in San Martin, Calif.

Whitney Pitalo's stalwart defense and clutch scoring proved to be critical as the Trojans beat Oregon 1-0 in double overtime and upended Oregon State 2-1 in a come-from-behind win. On Friday in Eugene, Ore., Pitalo teamed up with goalie Caroline Stanley to provide the shutout, as Sydney Sladek ultimately won the game with a score in the 104th minute.

Facing rainy conditions in Corvallis, Ore., with the Trojans down 1-0 to the Beavers, Pitalo delivered the equalizer with a header into the net off a corner kick by Jamie Fink. This score marked the junior's first goal of the season, and third of her career, coming at the right time for the Trojans. USC went on the win in dramatic fashion with a goal by Alex Quincy in the first overtime period. The Trojans travel on the road to face Washington on Friday, Oct.31, and Washington State on Sunday, Nov.2.

Also nominated for women's student-athlete of the week honors: Zoe Scandalis (tennis) and Ebony Nwanebu (volleyball).
