    USC Signee DeMelo Named to the U.S. U-20 National Team for the Upcoming World Cup

    CHICAGO – USC signee Savannah DeMelo was officially named to the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team for the upcoming 2016 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup being held in Papua New Guinea from Nov. 13-Dec. 3, it was announced by head coach Michelle French.

    DeMelo, a 2016 graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Bellflower, Calif., will join the Trojans in 2017. She is one of the youngest players named to the squad, and one of 13 players who helped the USA win the CONCACAF U-20 Women’s Championship and qualify for the World Cup last December. DeMelo is one of four named to the team who deferred their college enrollment to participate in the tournament.

    DeMelo was the captain of the U-18 U.S. Youth National Team for an international friendly vs. Mexico and has been a member of the U-15 and U-14 squads. She has been a member of state and regional ODP teams, earning regional titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. Her squads earned ODP national championships in 2014 and 2015. DeMelo played club for Beach FC, where she helped her team to the USYS GU-17 national championship final and the National League title in 2015. At the USYS GU-16 National Championship, she led her team to the title, was named to the Best 11 team and won the Golden Boot for scoring the most goals in the tournament. DeMelo was named to the Puma Elite Showcase in 2013 and the ECNL ID2 National Training Camp 2014, top 11 list.

    A four year letterwinner at Saint Joseph’s HS in Bellflower, Calif., DeMelo was named an NSCAA HS All-American in 2015. She led her team to a league title in 2013 and the CIF finals in 2014. She also earned First Team All-League honors all four years. DeMelo was named the Press Telegram Player of the Year in 2014.
