Freeman Named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week

    Sept. 27, 2016

SAN FRANCISCO - USC senior defender Mandy Freeman was named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today by the Conference.

The senior has been an integral role in the Trojans' seven game shutout streak, which is a new program record.

Last Friday in the Pac-12 opener, Freeman and the Trojans again tallied another shutout as they defeated visiting Arizona 4-0 at McAlister Field.

Freeman and the Trojans thwarted 15 shot opportunities, including a tough second half where the Wildcats had 12 shots alone. The victory set a program record with seven-straight shutout victories.

This is the first time in her career that Freeman has been named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Week. Last season she earned her first weekly honor, Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week after a two-goal, two-victory weekend.

Freeman and the Trojans set out for their first Pac-12 road trip of the season as they head to Oregon for a 4:30 p.m. PT match on Thursday, Sept. 29. They then face Oregon State on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. PT. Both games will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks.
