USC senior goalkeeper Kristin Olsen has earned her first major honor of the 2009 women's soccer season in being named to the Watch List for the MAC Hermann Trophy. The Hermann Trophy is awarded to the top women's collegiate player at the close of the soccer season, and only a few USC players have ever been on the Watch List for the award. This is Olsen's second time on the Hermann Trophy Watch List, also named in 2008 after she was a finalist for the Honda Award in 2007 when the Trojans won their first-ever NCAA Championship.

Olsen has accumulated a number of awards in her USC career as she turns to enter her senior season at Troy. She already stands as USC's winningest goalkeeper with 35 career victories, and is close to taking over as USC's all-time leader in shutouts, currently holding 20 with the leader at 25. Olsen has the top mark among all USC goalkeepers with a 0.55 goals-against average. A member of the U.S. Under-23 National Team, Olsen is one of two All-Americans (alongside fellow senior Meagan Holmes) returning to the USC roster this season, and is one of eight Pac-10 players named to the 2009 Hermann Trophy Watch List.

The Missouri Athletic Club has named 45 of the best women's Division I intercollegiate soccer players candidates for their Hermann Trophy Watch List, putting those players in line for what is considered the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer. The Hermann Trophy winners are selected by Division I head coaches who are current members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). The list of 45 is cut down to 15 semifinalists in November, with three finalists announced in early December. The finalists are invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis, Mo. for a news conference and banquet on Jan. 8, 2010, where the winner will be announced.

Recent graduate Amy Rodriguez is the only other Trojan to earn two selections to the Hermann Trophy Watch List (2006 and 2008), and she went on to be selected a 2008 semifinalist for the award. In 2008, Rodriguez and Olsen were on the Watch List with recent graduate Ashley Nick.
