USC's Ashley Nick Signs With Sky Blue FC

From Holland to New Jersey, USC's Ashley Nick is looking for another championship!

    Aug. 2, 2013

After helping the USC women's soccer team win its first national championship in 2007, Trojan All-American Ashley Nick went globe-trotting to win her next title. Now back on home turf, the proven winner has caught the eyes of the National Women's Soccer League, and has been signed by Sky Blue FC to join the pro ranks in the USA.

Nick will join Sky Blue FC immediately, having been added to the roster just as the race heats up for the NWSL playoff picture. Sky Blue FC can use a player like Nick -- a powerful and savvy midfielder who most recently proved her worth as MVP of the W-League Tournament last weekend playing for Pali Blues. That stint at the semi-pro level helped seal the deal in getting Nick into the NWSL. Nick had been serving as USC soccer's Director of Operations while also training and competing with Pali Blues. She'll now make the move to New Jersey to join her new teammates at Sky Blue FC, and will play in Saturday's match at the Washington Spirit to work toward a spot in the coming NWSL Playoffs.

A two-time All-Pac-12 First Team honoree, Nick graduated from USC in 2009 and was drafted by the Boston Breakers, only to be released before the then-WPS season began. Nick was undeterred. She'd soon make the move to the Netherlands, where she was named team captain of FC Twente. Nick would charge her team up to with the Dutch League Championship, and was named League MVP -- adding another title to the 2007 NCAA champion's resume. Nick would then play a season in Norway for Arna Bjørnar, named the team's Biggest Impact Player and helping win a bronze medal in the Norwegian League.
