LOS ANGELES -- Former USC women's soccer player Ali Fennell will have an opportunity to play professionally after being selected 23rd overall today in the Women's United Soccer Association draft. She was picked in the third round by the Freedom as the eight-team league enters its third year of existence.

Fennell, who was recently named as USC's 2002 Forward of the Year, registered career-highs in goals (nine) and points (19) as the Women of Troy reached the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Santa Ana, Calif., native and graduate of Mater Dei High School earned All-Pac-10 All-Academic second team honors with a 3.57 grade-point-average in communications.
