Jan. 21, 2014
USC senior Elizabeth Eddy has earned high acclaim, selected on Jan. 17 by Sky Blue FC in the 2014 National Women's Soccer League draft. The speedy Trojan shined all over the field during her USC career, and her talent was tapped into as the 33rd overall pick in the draft.
USC's top scorer with six goals in her senior season, Eddy finished her USC soccer career with 16 total goals and nine assists. She started 69 games out of her 76 appearances and scored three game-winning goals. She stands at No. 10 all-time in career goals scored, and earned many honors in her career, including 2-11 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, 2010 Pac-10 All-Freshman Team, 2013 Pac-12 Player of the Week, and named to the 2013 USD All-Tournament Team. She also is a two-time recipient of Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention. Eddy, who also plays on the USC lacrosse team, will compete for the Trojans this spring.
Eddy follows in the footsteps of several other Women of Troy who have competed at the professional level in the United States. Amy Rodriguez and Ashley Nick were both selected to the Women's Professional Soccer league in the 2009 draft. Rosa Anna Tantillo was not drafted, but later joined the FC Gold Pride in the same league. Nick and Rodriguez both remain in the pro ranks, with Nick also hailing from Sky Blue FC and Rodriguez slated for action with FC Kansas City. Rodriguez was the No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft, going to the Boston Breakers. Nick was the 56th overall pick, also selected by the Breakers.
When the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) was in action, USC had Ali Fennel selected 23rd overall by the Washington Freedom. In 2000, USC had Kim Clark selected 57th overall by the Bay Area CyberRays and Tara Koleski selected 83rd by the Chicago Spirit.
