SALT LAKE CITY -- The USC women's soccer team had host Utah on the ropes, outshooting the Utes down the stretch in their Pac-12 contest today, but Utah would score following its first shot on goal, and that would stand as the winner. USC was certainly the offensive aggressor and also proved defensively savvy, but alas it was Utah that came away with the victory. The 1-0 loss moves the Trojans to 6-9-2 overall and 1-6-1 in Pac-12 play, while Utah improves to 8-3-6, 4-2-2.

The Trojans had peppered the Utah goal with 12 shots and forced four saves out of Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke before the Utes put USC keeper Caroline Stanley to the test. Kayla Mills and Megan Borman drill first-half shots that were stopped by Luke as the teams stayed 0-0 at the break. In the second, Mills and her offense continued to press, and yet Luke was up to the challenge with saves against Mills and Katie Johnson as time ticked down. In the 76th minute, the Utes were finally able to solve the Trojan defense and put a shot on goal. Stanley made the save, but the loose ball off the stop was cleaned up by Utah's Allie Wisner, and the Utes snagged a 1-0 lead with under 15 minutes to go.

The Trojans had managed scores in the last 10 minutes of action in their previous two games, so USC was anything but out of reach. Jordan Marada blasted a couple shots in the next stretch, with Luke there for the stop. In the final minute, USC looked primed for the equalizer when Mills rocketed a shot on goal, only to see a diving Luke haul it in, preserving Utah's advantage and stymying the Trojans for the last time in the match.

USC now returns home for its final two matches of the year at McAlister Field. The Trojans will host Oregon in a 3 p.m. clash on Friday (Nov. 1) before playing their home finale on Sunday (Nov. 3) against Oregon State at 11 a.m. That matchup will mark Senior Day for the Women of Troy, who will honor their five beloved seniors, Autumn Altamirano, Haley Boysen, Mia Bruno, Elizabeth Eddy and Jordan Marada, in a pre game ceremony. That game also will be televised on Pac-12 Networks.
