LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- It was a long time coming, but the USC women's soccer team has now pieced together a winning surge with its third straight win. The Trojans topped Arizona 1-0 this afternoon at McAlister Field in USC's final home game of the season, with the game-winner coming from sophomore Elizabeth Eddy off an assist from senior Claire Schloemer. The Women of Troy honored their five graduating seniors today in a pregame ceremony, and all five were key elements in capping off a winning weekend at McAlister. USC improves to 6-11-0 overall and is 3-5-0 in Pac-12 play, while Arizona goes to 1-13-2, 1-6-1.

With three Pac-12 road games left in the regular season, the Women of Troy still have a winning conference record within reach, now that USC has matched its longest win streak of the season. Today's win was hard-fought by the Trojans, who were again anchored by a strong performance in goal by freshman Carley Pennington and her back line of Autumn Altamirano, Samantha Johnson, Kristina Noriega and Chelsea Buehning, who helped lock in on USC's second shutout win of the year.

The USC offensive unit, meanwhile, matched a season high of 18 shots, with senior Ashli Sandoval leading the pack with 10 shots. All 10 were extremely dangerous, calling for nice saves from Arizona goalkeeper Ashley Jett and one save on the line by a Wildcat defender. Seniors Carly Butcher and Ashley Freyer also took some solid cracks on goal in the match, but it was sophomore Elizabeth Eddy that was able to break through in the 60th minute. Claire Schloemer nabbed a takeaway around midfield and sent up a nice long ball for a sprinting Eddy on the right side. As Eddy charged on goal, she slotted her shot past the keeper to the left side of the goal, netting a 1-0 lead for the Trojans. USC would continue to create plenty more opportunities, thanks to good balls sent upfield by Brittany Kerridge, Butcher, Johnson, Altamirano and Buehning. But Eddy's goal would be the one to stand up through the remainder of play. That's Eddy's fourth goal of the year, giving her the goals lead on the team, and marks her second game-winner of the year, which also is a team high for 2011. Eddy provided a goal and a winning assist over the weekend for the Trojans, and Schloemer served up the winning overtime goal on Friday along with today's assist.

The Trojans will hit the road next for a trip to the mountains. USC faces Utah in a 7 p.m. MT match on Friday (Oct. 28) in Salt Lake City, and then heads to Boulder to play Colorado at 1 p.m. MT on Sunday (Oct. 30).
