LOS ANGELES, CALIF. -- Back in the friendly confines of McAlister Field, the USC women's soccer team celebrated their first game back home in over a month with a much-needed win over visiting Utah. Jordan Marada plugged in what would become the winner in a 1-0 shutout victory for the Trojans over the Utes. After a five-game winless stretch on the road, USC successfully snapped that slump today at McAlister Field, improving to 5-7-3 overall and 2-3-2 in Pac-12 play with USC's second shutout win of the year. Utah goes to 8-5-2, 3-4-0.

USC's defense was on point throughout the match, with a stubborn back line of Autumn Altamirano, Mia Bruno, Erin Owen and Marlee Carrillo putting a stop to numerous Utah attacks, while goalkeeper Caroline Stanley came up with five saves in the game. It wasn't until the 30th minute of play, in fact, that the Utah offense was able to even generate a shot on goal, and Stanley was there for the clean-up. Just minutes later, USC was deep in Utah territory at the other end, with Altamirano feeding a pass up for Elizabeth Eddy. Eddy danced her way to the end line and sent in a centering pass to the box. Jordan Marada was there, and jumped on the opportunity, slotting the ball low left for the score in the 34th minute. That goal snapped a 258-minute stretch of scoreless soccer for the Trojan offense, and was a crucial kickstart for the USC spirits.

The Trojans' possession game was strong in the first half in particular, and USC out-shot the Utes 7-3 through the first 45 minutes. Utah was able to create some more chances in the second, but the USC back line remained stalwart and continued to turn away the Utes. Utah upped its pressure to the tune of nine more shots in the second half, only to keep coming up against a stubborn USC defense as the Trojans held tightly to their 1-0 lead. USC would make that Marada goal stand tall by the final horn, and the Trojans had locked in on a win after five games without a win while on a five-game road run.

The Trojans remain at home for the rest of the regular season, next hosting Colorado for a 1 p.m. game on Sunday (Oct. 21) at McAlister Field. The game will be STREAMED LIVE HERE
