LOS ANGELES -- Sophomore Ali Fennell (Santa Ana/Mater Dei HS) registered two goals and an assist to lead the No. 12 USC Trojans to a 3-0 decision Sunday over the Vanderbilt Commodores in the 2000 Fila Challenge at McAlister Field. The Trojans continue their best start ever at 5-0 and have outscored opponents by an 11-2 margin this season.

Fennell opened the scoring with her first goal of the season at 23:11 on a shot off Vanderbilt goalkeeper Stacee Sproul on the left side. Junior Christy Callier (San Diego/University City HS) assisted on Fennell's first goal and added her first goal of the season at 82:07. Fennell and senior Andrea Warner (Dana Point/Dana Hills HS) assisted on Callier's goal.

Fennell would add her second goal of the game at 88:28 off a throw-in from sophomore Stephanie Scholl (Torrance/South Torrance). Freshman Megan Abbamonto (Mission Viejo/Capistrano Valley HS) also was credited with an assist.

Sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Arase (La Canada/La Canada HS) continued her perfect record at USC with her third shutout of the season, making four saves on the day. Arase is 4-0 on the season and 11-0 in her career. She now has five career solo shutouts and two shared with teammate Shaelyn Fernandes.

"Late in the match, we wore Vanderbilt down and took care of the ball," said USC Head Coach Jim Millinder. "I thought we had a lot of quality chances, but we just didn't finish them. We are getting better, however, at creating chances. We just need to work on being sharper, especially in the penalty box. Vanderbilt battled today and when all is said and done, they should be a tournament team."

The Women of Troy will travel to Gainesville, Fla., next week to face the University of Florida on Friday (Sept. 15) at 8 p.m. (Eastern) and Central Florida on Sunday (Sept. 17) at noon.

In earlier Fila Challenge action, the No. 8 UCLA Bruins (5-1) defeated the Baylor Bears (2-3-1) by a 4-0 score. The Bruins dominated the match by recording an 26-3 margin in shots against Baylor.

The Bruins controlled the first half, but scored all four goals in the second half. Sarah-Gayle Swanson recorded the natural hat trick for the Bruins and now has seven goals on the season. Swanson scored at 48:51, 79:13 and 84:51.

Tracey Milburn scored the final goal for UCLA at 86:08.

Goalkeeper CiCi Peterson needed only one save to record the shutout for the Bruins.
