THIS SEASON: Arase will battle with teammate Shaelyn Fernandes for the starting goalkeeper position as a sophomore, but may still be part of a tandem for the season.
JIM MILLINDER SAYS: "Lauren had a good freshman campaign and a good spring. She and Shaelyn Fernandes will battle it out. I feel comfortable with either one in the net. She had a good year of experience and her win-loss record was excellent. Lauren should be very solid for us this year."
1999: Arase had an impressive 1999 freshman year, going 7-0 in her seven starts as a goalkeeper...played in 10 games overall and had a goals-against average of 0.631 while accumulating 31 saves...posted two solo shutouts and assisted in three others...had a season-high six saves against Arizona State.
HIGH SCHOOL: Arase starred at La Canada (Calif.) High, earning three-time (1997-99) All-CIF Southern Section first team honors...earned All-Rio Hondo League honors all four years and was the Goalkeeper of the Year three times...led La Canada to three straight league titles from 1997-99...named La Canada's top athlete as a senior...also a good student, she was a member of the National Honor Society...played on the Santa Anita Sting club team...was a member of the U.S. Under-18 National Team pool...played on Olympic Development Program teams since 1994, and traveled to Germany with a regional Under-17 team.
PERSONAL: Her father, Randal, attended USC...also plays the violin...her birthdate is March 18, 1981.
