THIS SEASON: After fighting through various injuries over the last year and a half, Abbamonto hopes to be healthy as a 1999 redshirt freshman ... If available, she is expected to make an impact as a defensive midfielder.
JIM MILLINDER SAYS: "We really need Kim to come back healthy. If she does, she should be able to push for a lot of playing time. I'm expecting Kim to be a big part of this team over the next four years."
1998: Abbamonto redshirted her 1998 freshman season at USC due to hip and lower back injuries.
HIGH SCHOOL: Abbamonto's honors as a senior at Capistrano Valley High in Mission Viejo, Calif., included the 1998 CIF Southern Section Division I Defensive Player of the Year, Orange County Register Orange County Player of the Year, Los Angeles Times Orange County Player of the Year and South Coast League MVP ... She had 13 goals and eight assists as a senior as Capistrano Valley was the CIF Southern Section Division I runner-up ... She was also named to the Orange County Girls' Soccer Coaches Association All-Star team following her senior year ... As a junior, she made the 1997 CIF Southern Section Division I first team, Orange County Register All-Orange County first team and All-South Coast League first team after tallying nine goals and 12 assists ... As a sophomore, she made the 1996 CIF Southern Section Division I second team and All-South Coast League first team ... Kim was a three-time team MVP ... She was on the Capistrano Valley honor roll for three years ... She has played for the Mission Viejo Shamrocks (which was a national finalist in 1995) and the Southern California Blues at the club level ... She played on the Under-19 Olympic Development Program regional team and was in the national pool.
PERSONAL: She has a 3.66 GPA at USC ... She lists Michael Jordan as her sports hero ... A grandfather also attended USC ... Kim's birthdate is Dec. 28, 1979.
