LOS ANGELES - The ninth-ranked USC women's rowing team returns to Redwood Shores to face No. 4 Stanford in a head-to-head dual on Saturday, April 26. The Women of Troy and the Cardinal will race varsity eights at 10:40 a.m., followed by the 2V8 at 10:50 a.m., and concluding with the varsity four at 11 a.m. PT. The three races follows a dual between Cal and Washington which will also be held at Redwood Shores beginning at approximately 10 a.m.
USC and Stanford have faced each other many times over the years in multiple-team regattas, but the Trojans and the Cardinal went head-to-head for four years from 2001-04. In 2001, USC won the V8 and 2V8 races while Stanford claimed wins in the varsity four and novice races at the Port of Los Angeles. In 2002, the crews faced off at Lake Natoma with the Trojans claiming a win in the varsity eight while Stanford won the 2V8, V4, and novice eight races.
In 2003, USC's first year under head coach Zenon Babraj, the teams returned to the Port of LA where the Cardinal won varsity eight, 2V8, and novice eight races and the Trojans won the varsity four battle. The last time USC and Stanford raced in a dual, the Trojans swept all four races at Redwood Shores on April 24, 2004, exactly 10 years ago.
Following the dual against Stanford, the Women of Troy return to LA for their only home event of 2014 as hosts of crosstown rival UCLA. The Trojans have never lost to the Bruins in a dual and will race head-to-head for the 13th time in program history. First races are set for 8 a.m. PT on Saturday, May 3.
