The Women of Troy performed well at the Head of the American Regatta in Lake Natoma, Calif. on Saturday (Oct. 25), with USC talking first in both the collegiate 8+ and the collegiate 4+ contests.
USC faced some tough competition in this regatta, among them 2008 Pac-10 champion Cal and powerhouse Stanford. The young Women of Troy were able to respond to the competition, with their USC-A entries in the 8+ and 4+ races coming out on top.
The USC-A entry in the collegiate 8+ category won the race with a time of 15:45. They were followed by the Cal Gold B entry at a time of 16:14 and the Stanford Fritsch at a time of 16:15. The USC-A1 entry finished in 6th at a time 17:09.
In the collegiate 4+ category the USC-A won with a time of 17:36. Cal Gold-B came in next at 17:50 and rounding out the top three was the USC-A1 boat at 17:53.
The young USC team, which has many first-year athletes competing, performed well this weekend. Head Coach Zenon Babraj said, "We are headed in the right direction. The team has a great deal of quality. We will continue to work and train hard, as we have a lot of time to improve before the spring season."
The next race for the Women of Troy will be on Feb. 21, 2009 in a scrimmage against UCSD, SDSU and USD.
