    Post-Race Quotes: USC-UCLA Dual (2014)

    May 3, 2014

    Recap

    Zenon Babraj, Head Coach

On the importance of beating UCLA in the rivalry dual
“Getting this win was important for our varsity eight and varsity four in terms of lane seeding for the Pac-12 Championships. It was a little disappointing in the second varsity eight. We need to work things out before Pac-12s to see if there is a better combination and bring our speed up.”

    On dominating the crosstown dual
“It’s good to have two good, competitive, collegiate rowing programs in Los Angeles. I think that it’s good for both UCLA and us. If we’re both competitive, it brings up how good we each are comparatively in the nation, so it’s great to have good races and for us to have more and more close runs with them. This year, we’re going through a little bit of a rebuilding year with the departure of such a strong senior class, but despite that, we are still staying pretty close to the top, so that’s a good sign.”

    Vineta Moca, Sr.

On staying undefeated against UCLA through her four years
“Going into this race, it was kind of a special moment for us because we knew that it was our last home race as seniors, and we’ve never lost to UCLA in the varsity eight. Having all of the fans here, we wanted to show them what kind of crew we really are, so it was a great way to finish.”

On looking forward to the Pac-12 Championships
“Within our boat, the commitment that I felt during the race was really good. When the coxswain made her calls, we were doing it all, so the commitment was there. It’s important for us to carry on that same attitude as we prepare for the Pac-12 championships.”
