No. 5 USC Dominates Stanford Invitational

The No. 5 USC women's rowing team completed another successful weekend of racing winning seven of eight races against No. 11 Stanford, No. 15 Michigan State and No. 17 Notre Dame at the Stanford Women's Invitational on Saturday. USC's varsity eight lineup of cox Dionne Licudine, Vineta Moca, Jelena Zelenovic, Lenka Vrecnikova, Magdalena Janicka, Anna Wierzbowska, Helen Tinkus, Marlena Adamska, and Melanie Grindle opened the morning session against Notre Dame posting the fastest time of the day as they defeated the Irish in 6:21.2. Notre Dame finished well behind with a time of 6.32.2. The Trojans time was also faster than those of Stanford, Michigan State, California and Washington; who all raced the course that day. USC's second varsity eight of cox Jennah Blau, Gaby Zarate-de Macedo, Liz Turner, Eglit Vosu, Kajsa Olsson, Rebecca Shaffer, Vanessa Tyson, Kate Gleadow and Anna Janicka led their entire race finishing in 6:37.7 ahead of Notre Dame's time of 6:40.6 USC's varsity four was in a close race with the Irish but was out-rowed in the last 750 meters finishing in 7:20.5 behind the Notre Dame who finished in 7:17.8. The afternoon session with Michigan State went just as planned for the Trojans as they were able to sweep the Spartans in three races.
Troy's varsity eight continued their undefeated season as they won comfortably with a time of 6:23.5. The Spartans came in almost 10 seconds behind with a time of 6:32.5. In second varsity eight action, USC was involved in a much closer race but again was able to pull away at the finish posting a winning time of 6:37.7, almost three seconds ahead of the Spartans. In the days most exciting and closest race, USC's varsity four of cox Caroline Trawick, freshman Chloe Roddy, Caroline Sederowsky, Madelyn Walters and Jelena Miladinovic picked up its first win of the season in a neck-and-neck contest with a time of 7:27.4. They finished just over a second ahead of Michigan State at 7:28.6. Also in action, USC's second varsity four made up of freshman and novice rowers defeated Stanford twice by more the 20 seconds. The Women of Troy return to action next Saturday as they host UCLA in San Pedro, Calif.
