Rebecca Shaffer enters her third year with the Trojans as a port-side rower.
As a sophomore, Shaffer stroked USC's second varsity eight boat and helped the crew to a sixth-place finish in the grand final for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy at the San Diego Crew Classic. She moved to the four seat as the Trojans defeated Princeton, Yale, Michigan State, and Notre Dame. Shaffer closed the year in the stroke seat of the varsity four boat and helped the Trojans to strong races at the Pac-12 championships and a first-place finish in the third final of the NCAA championships.
As a freshman, Shaffer rowed from the third seat in the second varsity four boat and helped her crew to a first-place finish in the petite final for the women's collegiate fours. She also helped the second varsity four to a win over UCLA in the annual dual.
CLUB AND HIGH SCHOOL
Shaffer rowed for Community Rowing, Inc., in Boston, Mass., for five years under head coach Ethan Curren. She raced at the Royal Canadian Henley in the summer of 2011 in the women's eight U23 for CRI. Her women's four boat placed second at the 2010 Youth National Championships. Shaffer stroked the varsity eight boat for three straight years (2007-09) and helped her crew to first-place finishes in 2007 and 2008 and a second-place finish in 2009. Shaffer also rowed in the CanAmMex boat in the summer of 2009 as a member of the US Junior National Team and was a National Honors Society member at Mount St. Joseph Academy.
