2012-13 Michelle Popelka enters her novice season with the Women of Troy.
CLUB AND HIGH SCHOOL Popelka rowed with the Oakland Strokes for four years and helped her crew to the national championship. She was a member of the varsity eight that won gold at the Head of the Charles, the Royal Canadian Henley, the Newport Autumn Rowing Festival, and at the Southwest Junior Regional Championships. The Strokes won the team trophy at the Southwest Regional Championship four years in a row with Popelka on the squad. She was also a member of the Olympic Development Program for soccer for one year before quitting due to a knee injury. Popelka prepped at Moreau Catholic High School in Hayward, Calif., where she played varsity softball as a first-baseman, soccer as a midfielder, and ran cross country as a freshman. Popelka was chosen to the North Coast Section All-League first team as a freshman on the soccer team and was a three-year Presidential Scholar (2009-12).
