Madelyn Walters enters her second year with the Trojans and will row from the port side.
As a sophomore, Walters occupied the two seat in the varsity four all season. She helped her boat to a fifth-place finish in the grand final for the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic and raced in a tri-race against Yale and Princeton. She helped the V4 boat to a win over Michigan State at the Stanford Invitational and a win against UCLA in the annual USC-UCLA dual race. Walters also raced with the V4 at the Pac-12 Championships where the Trojans took fifth place as a team; and was in the two seat for the NCAA Championships where her boat won the third final to help USC take sixth place overall as a team.
As a freshman, Walters rowed at Connecticut under head coach Jen Sanford-Wendry. During the fall season, she competed from the sixth seat of the third varsity eight and with the first novice eight boats. She raced at the Head of the Fish with the second varsity eight B boat and the top novice boat. Walters held the four seat in the second varsity eight in UConn's season-opening race against Miami. She also raced at the Yankee Cup and helped her 2V8 to wins against Trinity, Marist, and the Coast Guard, as well as victories over Holy Cross and Boston College. Walters raced out of the four seat in the Knecht Cup and helped her crew to a fifth-place finish in the grand final. Her boat also finished fifth at the Big East Championships and helped UConn to fifth place overall as a team. Postseason, Walters and the second varsity eight finished fifth in a semifinal at the Dad Vail Regatta. Following her first season as a rower, Walters was invited to participate in the US Rowing Women's National Team Freshman Camp.
CLUB AND HIGH SCHOOL
Walters attended Nauset Regional High School in Eastham, Mass., where she earned four varsity letters as a member of the soccer team. She was an Atlantic Coast League All-Star in her junior and senior years, and earned the sportsmanship award as team captain in each of her junior and senior years. Walters also earned three varsity letters as a member of the basketball team and was on the Cape and Islands All-Star Team and the Atlantic Coast League All-Star Team in her junior and senior years as her team's captain. In addition, Walters earned three varsity letters as a member of the track and field team and was an Atlantic Coast League All-Star in her sophomore year and qualified for All-State Track Meet in each of her freshman, sophomore, and senior years. She is the NRHS record holder in the 200-meter. Walters received the Bremner Scholar-Athlete Award, the Samuel O. Gurney Sportsmanship Award, and was nominated to the Massachusetts Rotary Youth Leadership Conference. She is also a National Honor Society member. Walters also played club soccer for the Oceana Soccer Club for eight years and played AAU basketball for three years
Madelyn Davis Walters was born on April 12, 1992, in Northampton, Mass.... parents are Davis and Kim Walters... mother Kim ran track at University of Massachusetts... has three brothers; Kyle (22), Sam (16), and Jeremy (13)... aspires to become a physician's assistant... enjoys the beach and reading in her spare time... majoring in human biology.
