    Women's Rowing: NCAA Championships

    The second-ranked Women of Troy completed the 2013 campaign with a program-best fourth-place finish in the NCAA Division I Women's Rowing Championships at Eagle Creek Park on Sunday (June 2). USC's varsity four claimed silver in the fours grand final to take the podium while the Trojans' second varsity eight enjoyed a best-ever finish of fourth place. USC's varsity eight topped off the day with a sixth-place finish in its grand final.

    Madara Strautmane enters her first year with the Trojans and will row from the port side.

    Strautmane is a member of the Latvian national team and has rowed with SASS Rowing Club and with AK Majori from 2008-12. In 2012, she won Latvian national titles with the U23 squad in the double and the quad, and took second in the single scull at the national championships. She also won gold in the double at the Latvian 3rd Olympiad and collected a pair of bronze medals in the single and the quad. At the Baltic State Championships, Strautmane took home two gold medals; one in the 2K double and once in the 500-meter double. She also claimed a silver medal in the quad and won third in the 500-meter quads. In 2011, she was crowned the Latvian national champion in the quad and took second place in the double. She also claimed silver and bronze medals at the Baltic State Championships. In 2010, Strautmane won a pair of gold medals in the double (2K and 500m) and had a third-place finish in the Latvian national championship doubles.
