    LOS ANGELES – The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) recognized USC senior captain Kaila Sommi (Belle Meade, N.J./Montgomery HS) and the Women of Troy for academic honors this summer. Sommi was selected for 2014 Division I Academic Honor Roll among 233 student-athletes from 79 different NCAA Division I schools while the Trojans, as a team, were chosen for IWLCA Division I Honor Squad laurels along with 83 other schools.
     
    Lacrosse teams with a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.0 and higher were chosen for Academic Honor Squad distinction. 84 teams from NCAA Division I, 45 from Division II, and 125 from Division III were selected.
     
    Sommi was among 233 NCAA Division I student-athletes from 79 different schools who were included on the Academic Honor Roll. All student-athletes were nominated by their respective schools and have achieved at least junior status academically with a minimum cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. Across all three divisions, 738 student-athletes were honored from 162 different schools.
     
    Sommi is a business administration major who held a 3.80 GPA at the end of the 2014 spring semester. She has served as a team captain for the Trojans and played in 17 of 18 games this year. Sommi was chosen for MPSF All-Academic team honors in both 2013 and 2014. As a junior, she finished with two goals, an assist, five ground balls, four draw controls, and two caused turnovers.
