    USC To Start Final NCAA Stroke Play Round 2nd, Needs Top 8 To Advance

    USC wrapped up the third round early Monday morning (May 25), not at its best, but still in second place and in solid position heading into its final round beginning at 9:10 a.m. PT today at the Concession G.C. in Bradenton, Fla.

    The No. 1 Trojans, seeking a top 8 finish to move into Tuesday and Wednesday's match play winner-take-all tournament, led Duke by three strokes when play was cut short due to darkness Sunday night. USC started sluggishly this morning, however, finishing the final few holes at 6-over and completing the third round at 10-over 298.

    Freshman Amy Lee, sophomore Karen Chung and junior Kyung Kim birdied 17 and sophomore Gabriella Then finished her final four holes at par, but three double bogeys and three bogeys sent Troy to second as Duke shaved off one stroke.

    The Trojans will pair with the Blue Devils and Arizona with tee times off 1 at 9:10, 9:20, 9:30, 9:40 and 9:50 a.m. PT. USC will begin its fourth round at 34-over 898 (297-303-298) while Duke will start at 30-over 894 (293-309-292), the Wildcats at 41-over 905 (300-311-294).

    Junior Annie Park will begin play tied for sixth at 5-over 221 (70-76-75). She trails the lead by five strokes as she tries to become the first NCAA woman to win two individual national titles. Then is tied for 10th at 6-over 222 (75-74-73) while Kim (75-77-77) and Chung (77-79-73) are tied for 40th at 13-over 229. Lee is tied for 78th at 20-over 236 (82-76-78).

    Washington, one of five Pac-12 teams to make the 15-team cut after three rounds, holds down the eighth spot at 50-over 914 while Stanford sits at 48-over 912, seventh. UCLA was the last school in, finishing 15th by one stroke at 66-over 930.
