USC CREDIT UNION MEN’S STUDENT-ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
USC senior freestyle swimmer Cristian Quintero had a legendary week at the 2014 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Austin. On Thursday, Quintero began by winning his first career NCAA title in the 500y free after appearing in the finals for the previous two years, Quintero captured the crown with a time of 4:10.12; within a quarter second of famed Trojan Larsen Jensen’s time in 2007. Quintero’s winning time was the 11th fastest of all time. On Friday, Quintero took home another first place crown as he and teammates Reed Malone, Dylan Carter, and Dimitri Colupaev won the NCAA title in the 800y free relay. He also placed second in the 200y free and set a new USC record time of 1:32.28, just 0.32 behind the first-place swimmer. On Saturday, Quintero finished third in the 100y free. With this third-place finish, Quintero became the first Trojan to earn All-America honors in the 100y, 200y, and 500y free since Hungarian great Bela Szabados in 1999. Led by Quintero, USC finished eighth overall in the NCAA Championships.
