Hilton Head, S.C. - Freshman Candie Kung shot 214 (72, 71, 71) on her way to third place as the No. 2 USC women's golf team concluded its fall season with a hard-fought fourth-place finish in the Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Invitational at Hilton Head, S.C., on Sunday (Nov. 7).
The invitational featured some of the top teams in women's collegiate golf, including No. 1 Duke, No. 3 Arizona and No. 5 Arizona State. In the final tally, Arizona (875) clipped Duke (876) for the team championship, followed by Arizona State (888), then USC (890). Louisiana State (892) finished fifth.
Individually, Kung (ranked eighth in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll) recorded her third top-five finish in her first four collegiate tournaments as she finished five strokes behind champion Jenna Daniels of Arizona (209) and second-place Beth Bauer of Duke (209). Daniels defeated Bauer in a playoff to claim the top spot.
For USC, sophomore Leila Chartrand shot 225 (74, 78, 73) to finish tied for 16th, senior Linda Ishii shot 228 (82, 73, 73) to tie for 25th, freshman Mikaela Parmlid shot 230 (79, 75, 76) to tie for 32nd and junior Nicole Dalkas shot 233 (75, 80, 78) to tie for 35th.
The Women of Troy resume intercollegiate play next Feb. 7-9 at the "Regional Challenge" in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
